Setting up Plate Recognizer to run with ZoneMinder and your choice of cameras is easy. Just follow the steps below:

Set Up Cameras: You can use any IP camera you wish. Read tips on how to set up your cameras for ANPR.
Download ZoneMinder: See steps to download and install ZoneMinder on a Linux machine.
Connect Cameras: Hook up cameras to ZoneMinder Video Management Software.
Enable Event Notifications: Go to install zmeventnotification.
Activate Plate Rec: Then, you can enter in the Plate Rec API info.
Set Motion Detection: See steps below to set Motion Detection.
Optimize Motion Detection: for Vehicles. When vehicle is detected via YOLO, ZoneMinder will automatically send the image to Plate Recognizer.
See Dashboard: Get full results of decoded plates in Plate Recognizer Dashboard.
Use Webhooks: If you’re using Plate Recognizer On-Premise SDK, you can use Webhooks in the SDK to forward the decoded plate info to another system.

Activate Plate Recognizer in ZoneMinder

Step 1. Sign up on Plate Recognizer.

Step 2. You will be given a Plate Recognizer API Cloud Token in app.platerecognizer.com/accounts/plan/

Step 3. In ZoneMinder, enter in the Plate Recognizer API Key. For details, go here.

Please note that the Free Trial API Cloud Plan has a 1 lookup per second limit. If you send more than 1 lookup per second, the other image(s) within that second will be ignored by our Snapshot API Cloud.

Configure ZoneMinder Motion Detection for ANPR

Step 4: See steps to install object detection via OpenCV. This way, when a large object, such as a vehicle, approaches, ZoneMinder will be able to detect it.

Step 5: You can now configure camera settings for optimal license plate recognition.
